I tell you what! I've had an amazingly hard time keeping up with all mys sites and also running this blog. For those of you who have come back a few times to see for any updates, I'm sorry but there haven't been very many in the past few months.

My online endeavors are actually doing quite well and I'm starting to make some significant revenue with them.

I will continue to post more and more tips, tricks, and secrets as I find the time, but between my 13 websites, extensive PPC campaigns, media buying, forum postings, and other blogs... I've had one heck of a hard time keeping up!

Save Money Pumping Gas!

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS (Good information)

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Don't type in your domain

If you are going to check on your site, I learned that it's better to not directly type it into the search bar, but rather to type in your best keyword (one you rank for) and click through it organically that way. This works especially well if you are going to be on your page for a while because search engines time how long a visitor (who clicked through an organic result) stays on the page.

Do this enough with yourself, friends, and colleagues and I guarantee that you will start ranking higher for that particular keyword.

Updating Blogs

I wish there was a way to automatically update blogs. A service like that would be great for tons of blog owners who are not consistent with their posts.

If there is a way to have this automatically happen, it would be something that I would invest in.

Freeze It

During the time I lived with my sister and the years after where I have only seen her a few times a month (at most), there is always one thing in common: she is complaining about how bad her back hurts.

When she was younger, my sister Cat decided that it would be a good idea to try tricks on a snowboard that she was just not good enough to perform. On one of her "big rail" attempts, she not only broke both of her arms, but also hurt her lower back, which to this day (10 years later) is still bothering her. Computer Built

That's right, I finally finished building up my computer and it actually turns on and works!

I think I am going to start out by partitioning out the (terabyte) hard drive into 4 partitions, three of which for OS's. That's right, I'm going to be running XP, Vista, and Linux on different partitions!

I've never really done anything like this before, so I'm a little nervous, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Multiple tracking pixels

Does anyone else have problems when there's more than one tracking pixel on a page of your site? I know I struggle with that everyday for multiple sites that I run. I'm not sure why, but I think that different companies just have different ways of tracking that just aren't compatible with each other.

It's actually a real shame that is the case because there are plenty of companies that work well together, but if stats are skewed, it's pointless to have most of them.

As you can tell, I'm a big complainer :).

I like the idea of the frequent checks, but can't stand CPAempire and their Direct Track platform. It's not the software itself that I dislike, it's just the lack of functionality that gets to me (+ all the downtime).

I don't know, maybe I'm just a sucker for people who take the time to actually come up with their own inhouse software.

Mixers

I've been cooking and baking goods for many years now and if there's one thing that I just can't live without it's a good mixer. I must have gone through about 3 different mixers in the past 10 years or so and they have only gotten better.

Recently I visited a site that sells a new version of the Hamilton Beach® Mixer and it is completely awesome! The mixer itself is powerful enough to mix through your toughest jobs, for example the site says that it can power through nine dozen cookies, which is a ridiculous amount for those of you who don't know. The site not only sells that mixer, but also the Hamilton Beach® Stand Mixer which is what I am interested in.

One of my favorite things to make are cookies called snicker-doodles, and a mixer is a must to get them made (without staying up all night with the dough). The recipe is quite simple:
-1/2 c. shortening
-1.5 cups sugar
-2 eggs
-2.5 cups flour
-2 tsp cream of tartar
-1 tsp baking soda
-1/2 teaspoon salt

Don't let the recipe deceive you though because mixing all that by hand can get quite tiring (especially if there are more than one batch being baked).

Clickbank Chargebacks

I am really starting to hate the chargeback feature that Clickbank has. As an affiliate, I would get banged by people returning items and throwing off my numbers, and now as a merchant, it's making my stats look bad when people request their money back for the product they bought.

The worst part is that they always seem to wait a day until they decide to return the item (which to me is exactly how long it takes to install the scripts and realize that you no longer need the files they bought).

It just seems like people are taking advantage of the chargeback feature and something should be done about it.

Every once in a while I stumble across a new site or idea that I have never though of before and think it's really good. That happened today when I came across the GreenRoad website, where they promote safe driving by rating the driver while they drive. The technology can be used for fleet drivers, friends, or even teenagers who may be new behind the wheel. After a trip, you are rated and color coded accordingly (red or green) and you are shown the areas that need improvement. The idea itself is great and can be most useful to anyone in charge of drivers or parents who are worried about their child on the road.

Bit Torrents

You gotta love Bit Torrents! The whole idea of getting free media by sharing off multiple users with the same data (to get the speed up) is such a good one I can't believe it.

Performics

I didn't realize until recently that to be a merchant in Performics you must spend a $500 monthly fee, regardless of how many sales you make.

To me, that's crazy. How good are these affiliates to justify a monthly fee of that magnitude?

That means in order to hit an ROI for that network, you have to sell $500 more in profit, which is not easy to do.

I guess now that they are owned by Google, they can do what they want.

Indie Horror Films

Indie horror films are always the best to watch. Not necessarily for the special effects and high end technology, but rather for the plot and physical passion you can see in the film. The directors, producers, and actors know that their careers can be made or broken by their performances, so in turn, the movies are great!

I recently came across the site for Red Scream Films LLC and was most impressed by it. It talks a ton about the neo-grindhouse movement and where the trends are going in their blog. Also, there are plenty of indie films coming out on the site soon that look pretty interested. Stephen Colbert - New President?

This is a break from my typical posts, but I was watching the Colbert Report last night and I heard that Stephen is going to be running for president of the United States (in South Carolina only).

I think that's awesome, but I wonder if it's going to have a big impact on the actual presidential race and if it will affect results? Even if he is not on the official ballot, there's a good chance that people will put him down as write ins, and those people could have had the deciding vote.

I guess only time will tell what happens, but I bet he pulls out of the race.

Startlogic - Not so great anymore

I used to host a bunch of my sites on Startlogic servers before getting access to my friends virtual server, but there is still one major site I have on their hosting and recently, it's been questionable.

The issue I keep see happening is the databases cutting in and out. The worst part is that when I try to contact their support, they just ask for a ton of access to the site without explanation, then after a few days tell me it's not their problem.

I used to be down with the Startlogic support, but now I'm questioning how much effort they are really putting in.

Google Banned My Site

So the other day I was just Google searching around and realized that one my site actually had been banned from Google!

What's the deal with that!!??

The warning said that the site contained "Malware" of some description that was infecting other's computers.

I sent a request to Google to have it checked out and within a day, the warning was taken off.

I'm still wondering why it happened in the first place.

Text Spam

Does anyone else get text message spam on their phone? I know I sure do. Every time I get a new piece, I make sure to unsubscribe and have even gone as far as to call the company responsible and ask where they got my number. Each time I get the same response of "it was in our database".... which translates to "we bought it from a spammer who scraped it from Whois".

I know I'm venting, but I just hate having to pay for spam text messages.

I recently took a few online video lessons on Photoshop CS3 and all in all, it's just like CS2!

I thought there would be some serious upgrades, but I'm not sure too many of them are useful. CS2 works just fine, and just a few upgraded rendering tools are hardly worth a bunch more for the upgrade.

I say, CS3 is for the pros only. There's really no need to upgrade.

It seems like quite a waste when people start up a blog for the sole purpose of making one post and then being done with it. One thing I have noticed a ton of people are doing to make money online is spamming Craigslist.

I have noticed recently because I have been posting furniture on there for the past few days and have seen a few campaigns that actually seem pretty smart.

The other day I had the opportunity to play around with an iPhone and it was amazing.

As always with Google, there's no way of knowing for sure until they want us to know. I hate being left in the dark like this, hopefully something is said about it soon.

Nightlife Guide - NYC

Whenever you're visiting a new city, it's always good to be prepared with a set of restaurant and nightlife recommendations, but often time this information is hard to find and can be a pain to get a hold of. This summer I'm going to be returning to New York for the second time and this trip I am going to come prepared. My last experience on the east coast was good, but it was more of a 'walk around and find things to do' trip and I'm sure I missed some hot spots. And my last trip to Toronto... that was a disaster. I would have given anything to have a Toronto Dining Guide!

I recently cam across a website that specializes in giving out info on all that there is in NYC Nightlife. The site is MartiniBoys.com and they specialize in delivering the latest information on the top restaurants/clubs for most major cities. For me, I used it as somewhat of a NYC Dining Guide.

After spending some time on the site, I found some great looking NYC Restaurants that I made note of and am definitely going to visit this fall when I'm over there. Adbrite in my mind has a good idea, but a terrible execution. I randomly went from making a reasonable $3/day to pennies and the weird part is that I have no idea why. My traffic is the same, the ads look the same, everything is normal! But my revenue is down.

The reason I ask is because most people won't join up with an affiliate network unless they have SubID's or TrackID's, but not that many people use them. So many people are anxiously trying to increase their page rank but most do not realize that the easiest way to get the rank is from one way inbound links, especially if they are targeted.

There are tons of ways to get the one way links, most white hat but a few dirty black hat tricks. The best 'honest' way to get the link is to simply submit your link to directories.

Let's face it, no one looks for sites through a directory. It's all about getting on a high indexed / high page rank directory page.

So, my suggestion for you all is to start submitting your site to as many directories as possible.

For starters, you should submit to the Top Website Directory. It's highly indexed and will get your site some serious traffic.

For part of my job running our client's affiliate programs, much of my time is spent submitting different coupon codes to different coupon sites. So many people use coupon sites to give themselves a little discount before they make their online purchase and definitely make publishers a lot of money. Problems

I can't get over how much I dislike problems that arise, especially when they are software related. I encountered one today that basically ate up an hour of my day.

Total waste of time in the end and the problem did not even get fixed. Too frustrated to discuss further, but I just hate when stuff goes wrong.

New PPC Campaigns in Google

I recently set up some new campaigns under Google, but for some reason they aren't running right. I know you are all thinking the same thing: "give them time and they will start converting", but I have been running PPC campaigns in search engines for a long time and have never experienced this before.

Maybe Google is showing some lag on some of the new campaigns? I don't know, I'll keep you all updated.

Blog Battle Royale

Today I was tooling around the internet, just minding my own business on one of my favorite sites, when I stumbled across something that caught my eye. Where was I you ask? And what on earth did I see that caused me to almost pull a double-take on my computer screen? It was none other that the first ever PayPerPost Blog Battle Royale!

What is a "Blog Battle Royale" you may ask? It's another genius idea by Pay Per Post to get their posties (frequent blog posters and member of the community) to stay active and competitive in their lives as bloggers. For some, blogging is a way of life, others just like some competition, but either way you look at it, the contest is quite interesting.

The idea is simple: Who is the best blogger out there? Or at least, who is the most competitive blogger who is good enough to hold their title for the month.

Every month there will be a topic to blog about. The posties then go out, do their homework on the subject, and post as much as they can on said topic. Trackbacks will be used to see who is all competing, and there will be another blog posting where the voting will take place to pick the top five entrants.
Those chosen five will then be sent a little 'postie package' full of fun and exciting items (including a shirt!) to keep along side another object for them to post about. That final post that the five contestants do is voted upon again after submission and when the winner is chosen, they are rewarded.

What do they get you may ask? Well, for one thing, they get a PayPerPost autographed shirt (by all the team members at PPP! Also, they will be given a badge widget to put on their site letting everyone know that they are the winner of the Blog Battle Royale for that month and that they are a blogging force to be reckoned with.

All in all, this battle seems like a ton of fun and I encourage any blogger out there who is the least bit interested to give it a shot. Who knows, you might be the best blogger out there!

Squidoo gave me $2.18

I got another payment from Squidoo the other day for $2.18 and it was pretty exciting.

You may be thinking: "It's only $2, right?" but the exciting part is that I did nothing to earn it.

I setup the account as an inbound link to my directory, and had no idea that my 5 minutes of work would be a streaming revenue flow.

Doing nothing and getting something is the affiliate lifestyle, and I'm definitely living it right now.

Current revenue earned from Squidoo: $3.73

PC Controlled Lawn Sprinklers

Today I came across a site that totally blew me away. It left me asking: "why wasn't this product out years ago?"

The site I visited is Gwytech.ca and it is a site that sells a PC Irrigation Controller for PC controlled lawn sprinklers.

How great of an idea is it to have control over your sprinklers from your room or office instead of your garden or shed? The product itself is called PC Timer and sells for a lot less than you would think!

I recommend anyone who is looking for a high tech way of keeping their lawn green to check out this site and invest into a PC Timer of your own. Your neighbors will be quite jealous.

Email Creatives - Do they Work?

A question asked far too much: Do email creatives work for affiliate marketing?

The answer: sometimes.

It really depends on who the sender of the creative is. For example, if an affiliate is sending out a blast to a list of email addresses they bought for $4 from some guy in India, then chances are his conversion will be quite low.

On the other hand, if someone with a double opt in list of 5,000 sent out a blast to his/her targeted audience, the results would be fantastic.

New technology is always coming out and is making our lives better by the day. Recently I stumbled upon a site that did something quite unique and was very impressive to me. Alexa Redirect

For anyone trying to improve their Alexa score, you should try redirecting your traffic through the Alexa redirect.

By default, if you are looking at a site through the Alexa directory it will link through a URL that has the alexa.sitename.etc on it.

Using that link (especially if masked or cloaked) will lower your Alexa score better than not having it.

It's not much but it's worth a shot as you really have nothing to lose.

LinkConnector is coming back with a vengeance this year! I remember a while ago, LC used to not be a desired network of choice, but now (after a bit of financing), they have grown into quite a decent affiliate network.
